KARL A. PHILLIPS

Karl A. Phillips practice focuses primarily on commercial contracts, real estate, zoning, financing, entity formation, and estates. He assists businesses with their formation, sale and acquisition, and real estate transactions. Mr. Phillips also has extensive experience in reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts, including comprehensive due diligence and title review. He advises clients on land use development matters, including subdivision, site plan, annexation, and public works agreements. He routinely works with local and state agencies and represents clients before administrative and legislative boards on special exceptions, variances, annexation, and environmental matters. Mr. Phillips is admitted to the Maryland Bar and the Federal Bar for the District of Maryland and has litigated contract, zoning, and environmental issues. Reported opinions include Fairfax Savings, FSB v. Kris Jen Limited Partnership, 100 Md. App. 25, 639 A.2d. 206 (1994), rev’d, 338 Md. 1, 65 A.2d. 1265 (1995) a banking foreclosure case, and White v. North, 121 Md. App. 196, 708 A.2d. 1093 (1998), rev’d, 356 Md. 31, 736 A.2d. 1072 (1999), a Chesapeake Bay Critical Area variance case. Mr. Phillips received his law degree from the University of Baltimore in 1992, where he wrote for The Law Forum, and a B.A. in Economics from the University of Virginia in 1985. While in law school, Mr. Phillips also served as law clerk to the Honorable William R. Buchanan and the Honorable John O. Hennegan in the Circuit Court for Baltimore County. Mr. Phillips is a MICPEL certified mediator and court appointed mediator in civil and family law matters for the Circuit Court for Queen Anne’s County.
